Our History

In 1977, entrepreneur James A. Leopardo founded his namesake company, a two-person construction firm in Chicago. Throughout the 1980s and ’90s, that firm quickly grew into one of the most respected and trusted builders in the Midwest. During that time, Inc. Magazine ranked the contractor three separate times (1989, 1990 and 1992) for being one of the nation’s fastest growing companies. Part of that growth came from the successful construction of 27 Silo Electronics stores, 17 of which opened on the same day. In 1989, Leopardo completed its first project for the University of Chicago, a relationship cherished to this day, some 70 projects later.

Four decades since opening its doors, Leopardo proudly ranks as one of the nation’s largest 100 contractors with more than 400 employees who successfully build more than 400 projects each year. Today, this thriving family-oriented operation embraces every project with the same enthusiasm and care as it did the first.
