Leopardo Director of Estimating Achieves Three Industry Certifications

Leopardo Director of Estimating, Syed Karim, recently earned triple certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) and a Certified SAFe® 5 Scrum Master.

Issued by the Project Management Institute, the globally-recognized Project Management Professional (PMP) certification distinguishes individuals who have demonstrated extensive knowledge and mastery of project management concepts, tasks and techniques that are applicable across virtually any industry and methodology, as well as an ability to speak and understand the global language of project management. As a PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), Syed is globally recognized as possessing the knowledge and experience with agile principles and mindset, value-driven delivery, stakeholder engagement, team performance, adaptive planning, problem detection and resolution and continuous improvement. Syed has also earned certification as a SAFe® 5 Scrum Master (SSM) by Scaled Agile Inc., which distinguishes SAFe Scrum Master professionals responsible for integrating Scrum practices into an organization by using Scrum and Kanban to facilitate team events, supporting program execution and coaching Agile teams.

“Syed is an indispensable member of the estimating team,” said Leopardo Senior Vice President of Preconstruction and Estimating Rory Tihinen. “His hard work and dedication to his craft and this company cannot be overstated. We are all very proud of what he has accomplished.”

With more than 20 years in the industry and carrying a toolbelt of skills in design of complex construction projects and spanning nearly all disciplines, his exceptional talent has left a mark on some of Leopardo’s most notable projects like the luxury condominium high-rise at 4 E. Elm in Chicago, 315,000-square-foot renovation of the Arthur J. Gallagher headquarters in Rolling Meadows and the boutique office building and home of Leopardo’s downtown office at 210 N. Carpenter St. in Chicago. Syed has also played an important role in Leopardo’s continued growth and expansion across all its markets, having led estimating efforts on several of the company’s recent project wins. Among them, the 200,000-square-foot senior living residence in Ohio, 34,000-square-foot Peru Police Department facility in Illinois, as well as numerous projects for Leopardo’s growing federal market.

Syed has been a key player in Leopardo’s estimating department for more than 10 years. His multidisciplined experience has allowed him to excel in the fields of business, construction, project management, facilities management, preconstruction project delivery, design-build management and mechanical engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from N.E.D. University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi-Pakistan.
