Leopardo Completes New Independence Branch Library in Chicago

Leopardo recently completed the new Independence Branch Library. This two-story structure located at 4022 N. Elston on Chicago’s Northwest side will serve to enrich the surrounding neighborhoods, offering numerous resources to educate and foster imagination. The occasion was marked by a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, January 22 attended by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and other local dignitaries.

The new library features comfortable seating, easily accessible and mobile shelving, group tables, play areas and a community room. The building also includes a rooftop terrace and garden, as well as a parking structure with a park-like area off the second floor with spaces for library patrons.

The location is part of an 82,050-square-foot, six-story, mixed-use, LEED Gold-seeking project uniquely featuring both the library and affordable senior housing. The second phase of the project is slated for a spring 2019 completion.

Leopardo collaborated with Evergreen Real Estate and John Ronan Architects on the project, which was a partnership between the City of Chicago, Chicago Public Library and the Chicago Housing Authority.
