TAO Chicago

Chicago, Illinois

TAO Group, the popular Pan-Asian nightclub and restaurant with current locations in New York, Las Angeles and Las Vegas, selected Leopardo to deliver its Chicago location. The project transformed a Historic Landmark building dating back to 1892, which originally served as home to the Chicago Historical Society and more recently the nightclubs Castle and Excalibur, into TAO Chicago. Project highlights include:

  • 38,000-SF renovation and conversation of a Historical Landmark building into a restaurant and nightclub
  • 275-seat restaurant with stepped dining areas, custom ornamental iron spiral staircase, sushi bar and 16-foot Quan-Yin statue sitting within a koi pond
  • 12,000-SF nightclub with two DJ booths and four custom-designed bars
  • Three large murals created by New York-based artist Hush
  • Custom furnishings and one-of-a-kind Asian relics, including antique Chinese doors, dragon columns, Buddha miniatures and more than 100 fortune cats called Maneki Neko
  • Structural demolition and removal of all interior load-bearing walls
  • Created step-by-step visual plans detailing shoring, demo and steel erection phasing and sequencing to maintain the structural integrity of the building
