Leopardo Hosts Groundbreaking Event at Field of Dreams Movie Site in Dyersville, Iowa
Leopardo recently hosted a groundbreaking event with Go the Distance Baseball, the new owners of the Field of Dreams Movie Site in Dyersville, Iowa. The event highlighted the start of a newly unveiled master plan to expand the movie site into a baseball heaven and was attended by key stakeholders, including Frank Thomas, CEO of Go the Distance Baseball and a first-ballot member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
“I’ve been in business for 45 years. Every once in a while, we get a project that is just a gem,” said Leopardo founder Jim Leopardo. “It’s such a wonderful thing to be part of, and this in my career is probably the best and most worthwhile project that we’ve ever worked on.”
The $80 million expansion will add nearly 100 acres to the original 190-acre site and feature nine new baseball fields, dormitories for youth teams, a hotel, and an outdoor concert amphitheater. Other additions include a 100,000-square-foot field house, an RV park, jogging trails, and a large park inclusive for children and adults with disabilities.
The project will be completed in phases through 2025, create approximately 170 new full time equivalent jobs, and will transform the iconic movie site into a youth baseball and softball oasis while maintaining the property as a working farm.
“We can’t wait to have hundreds of youth softball and baseball teams playing in tournaments on our new fields and experience the magic of hitting home runs in the corn,” said Frank Thomas.
Serving as construction manager, Leopardo is working closely with Go the Distance Baseball, Heidner Properties, RDG Planning & Design, Origin Design, and Conlon Construction to complete the project.
