The Phoenix of Uptown Square

This 90-year old building was in bad shape after seven years of no heat and leaking roofs. Leopardo Construction kicked off the restoration process with investigative and progressive demolition. Each layer revealed yet another surprise and further decay, including rusted steel beams in one section of the building which left it condemned. The finished project stands proudly once more on North Broadway. Features of this difficult yet successful project include:

  • Utilizing Chicago’s TIF program with significant minority and City of Chicago resident participation
  • A large Borders Books store
  • A dozen small retail locations
  • 37 condominium units
