  • 38,000-SF new restaurant and nightclub for Tao Group, which has additional locations in New York, Las Angeles and Las Vegas
  • Transformed a Historic Landmark building dating back to 1892, which originally served as home to the Chicago Historical Society and more recently the nightclubs Castle and Excalibur, into TAO Chicago
  • 275-seat restaurant with stepped dining areas, custom ornamental iron spiral staircase, sushi bar and 16-foot Quan-Yin statue sitting within a koi pond
  • Nightclub with two DJ booths and four custom-designed bars
  • Three large murals created by New York-based artist Hush
  • Custom furnishings and one-of-a-kind Asian relics, including antique Chinese doors, dragon columns, Buddha miniatures and more than 100 fortune cats called Maneki Neko
  • Construction Award (March of Dimes)

Key Challenges:

Structural demolition and removal of all interior load-bearing walls, using more than 30 shoring towers, supporting over 60,000 lbs.
Structural steel individually picked & fed through openings in the wall
Created step-by-step visual plans detailing shoring, demo and steel erection phasing and sequencing to maintain the structural integrity of the building
