Leopardo Breaks Ground on New 6-Story Library and Affordable Housing Structure

Leopardo recently broke ground on the new Independence Branch Library. This  six-story mixed-use project uniquely features both a library and affordable living apartments at 4022 N. Elston on Chicago’s Northwest side.

After more than 130 years, Independence Branch Library will finally have a building to call its own. The two-story library will feature comfortable seating, easily accessible and mobile shelving, group tables, play areas and a community room. The project also includes four floors of affordable living apartments, each with its own recessed balcony painted in a different color.

The building will also feature a rooftop terrace and garden, as well as a parking structure with a park-like area off the second floor with spaces for library patrons and apartment residents.

Leopardo is serving as general contractor in collaboration with Evergreen Real Estate and John Ronan Architects on the project, which is set to be complete by the end of the year.

“Leopardo’s partnership with Evergreen Real Estate and John Ronin Architects on this innovative solution to meet two long-standing community needs is a reinforcement of our company’s commitment to continue to be the contractor of choice for all sectors of the Chicago multifamily market,” said Leopardo Senior Vice President Damian Eallonardo.
