Leopardo Project Named One of Chicago’s Coolest Offices

Radio Flyer’s headquarters was named to Crain’s Chicago Business’ 2017 list of Coolest Offices. The phased interior and exterior renovation was recently completed by Leopardo. Out of 117 nominations, Radio Flyer was one of 15 offices selected to be honored as “an innovative, exciting workplace that is visually stunning and offers compelling reasons for employees to show up and work together.”

Interior work included converting warehouse space into an open-office setting featuring multiple large murals painted by a team of local graffiti artists. A new heritage area was added to honor Radio Flyer’s history and brand legacy. It features a 400-square-foot illuminated stretched-fabric that hangs from the ceiling over original toy models made throughout the company’s 100 years.

“The building was once the Radio Flyer factory, and throughout the renovation designers from Gensler in Chicago left reminders of that history,” reports Crain’s. “A decommissioned red conveyor line for wagons now hangs above a spacious kitchen and cafe, and employees eat at a communal table made with timber framing salvaged from a demolished Radio Flyer warehouse.”

Leopardo has been completing work for Radio Flyer at its west side Chicago headquarters for nearly two decades. Past projects include a 70,000-square-foot, LEED Platinum-certified renovation and addition. This is also the second time Radio Flyer’s office has made the Crain’s Coolest Offices list. It was honored previously in 2007. Other past Leopardo projects to make the list include Mosaic in 2016, as well as the headquarters of Vivid Seats in 2015, AbelsonTaylor in 2008 and Mintel in 2013.
